Facebook employees look at any profile they want to look at. They do so for fun; for kicks. And they can do more than just that. They can, for example, also see which profiles a user has viewed. One anonymous employee has made it clear: they have access to anything and everything. Employees consider this a job perk and many check such data for fun.
Facebook’s privacy policy does not reserve or waive an employee’s right to check out any profile for any reason. Investigating a suspected sexual predator is one thing. Browsing private profiles for pleasure seems like a breach of privacy.
Oh, and don’t think deactivating your account will do much. From Facebook, “Deactivation will completely remove your profile and all associated content on your account from Facebook. In addition, users will not be able to search for you or view any of your information. If you reactivate your account, your profile will be restored in its entirety (friends, photos, interests, etc.).” In other words, your data remains even after you go.
