Newly released handheld multimedia machine GP2X is damn cool. With a huge a list of homebrew games and applications, and the ability to emulate a large number of gaming systems, this touch-screen hand-held device is worth its $169.99 pricetag.
Created by Gamepark Holdings, the device features a dual CPU core, 64MB of memory, SD card storage, and a Linux operating system. With Linux as its operating system, SDL support, and development tools supplied by Gamepark Holdings, developing for GP2X should be easy.
GP2X can emulate a ton of gaming systems including Playstation, Super Nintendo, and even runs DOSBOX. That is just a sampling and the homebrew list of games is long indeed.
Gaming is not all the GP2X is capable of. It supports multiple codecs and can hook up to a TV using the high quality S-video standard. It supports various music types and is capable of producing sounds up to 100 milliwatts. It even has a USB 2.0 port allowing you to instantly put your pictures onto the device.
