People are always asking me to fix their slow-ass computers. First thing I tell them is to quit surfing the porn sites. Then, sometimes, I will help them out. Here is a quick how-to fix a computer running Windows that has become way too slow:

This assumes you have no antivirus installed. I will warn you that some antiviruses are actually harmful to computers and may actually be the whole reason the computer is slow. I recommend removing all antivirus and spyware software on the computer prior to reading this guide unless you are certain that it is helpful.

First, disable all the programs that launch at your computer’s startup:

  • Click “Start” -> “Run” -> type “msconfig” -> Press Enter
  • Click the “Startup” tab -> Click “Disable All” -> Close the window -> Restart the computer

Now we’ve got a pretty clean boot to work with:

  • If you use Internet Explorer to browse the web, switch to Firefox. It is much safer and will prevent a ton of spyware/adware.
  • Download and install AVG Anti-Virus (Free Edition) and Ad-Aware 2007.
  • Both programs will need updated when you first run them so download the updates right away.
  • Perform complete system scans with both AVG and Ad-Aware. Reboot your computer. Scan one last time.

And there you have it. Simple, quick, and to the point – hopefully this helps
