Listen to this. One stupid mother had the audacity to prevent her sweet boy the right to play Halo 3. But here’s where it get worse: she got upset with this budding gamer when he punched her in the face! What in the hell did she expect to happen? Worse, the cops had to come and also got punched in the face. This could have all been easily prevented if this wench would have let her innocent darling play the damn game.
Thanks to TCPalm for the report.

What is Metaplace? From the official site:
“Build a virtual apartment and put it on your website. Work with friends to make a huge MMORPG. Share your puzzle game with friends. We have a vision: to let you build anything, and play everything, from anywhere. Eventually, anyway. We have to finish first.”

Newly released handheld multimedia machine GP2X is damn cool. With a huge a list of homebrew games and applications, and the ability to emulate a large number of gaming systems, this touch-screen hand-held device is worth its $169.99 pricetag.

“I’d close World of Warcraft” says Richard Bartle, the co-creator of the original MUD. MUDs, or Multi-User Dungeons, are a lot like World of Warcraft except they have existed since 1978 and use text instead of graphics. Like World of Warcraft, most MUDs feature quests, leveling up, bad guys, clans, and treasures wrapped up into a virtual online world.

The Cyberathlete Professional League announced yesterday that they will be giving away $1 million in total prize money at the Extreme Winter Championships tournament. The tournament will be held at Dallas, Texas. The date? It starts December 18 and ends on December 22. Whether or not you like you Halo 3, it is still very cool that gaming has made it to this point.

I used to always say “No” to MUDs. Then this one MUD came into my life. It’s called by the name of Project Bob. It differs from the rest in all the right ways: you can reroll anytime, people are nice and helpful, you can’t get lost thanks to a portal system, you can get a random dungeon quest made for you or a group at any time and even adjust the difficulty level.
Telnet into Project Bob or continue for Bob’s description

So who took home these precious phallic symbols? Winning big was Gears of War which took home the Ultimate Game of the Year, the Nuts All-Nighter, and the Editor’s Choice awards. Guitar Hero II also won big by taking home the 1Xtra Sountrack of the Year, and the Bliss Girls’ Choice Game of the Year awards. Nintendo Game of the Year went to The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (which I think sucked-ass). And PC Game of the Year went to time-sink The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar. And yes, these awards are so heavily sponsored that even the awards themselves are named after sponsors. In other words - they are not all that credible. Check next-gen.biz for a full listing of all the winners.

The SEGA Dreamcast can not die! Alice Company, a company based in France, has already promised Dreamcast owners a new game for 2008. Dynamite Dreams is the name of the new game which is being described as Bomberman-style. Honestly, I am not at all surprised as this is just the latest occurrence of those hardcore devs pumping out Dreamcast titles years after the system’s discontinuation. (Read on for a gameplay video)

Japanese video game legend Shigeru Miyamoto has ranked 19th in new list of Top Men compiled by AskMen.com. Don’t even say “Who?” Miyamato is the creator of Mario, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, Star Fox, Nintendogs, Wave Rave, and the Pikmin video game series. In other words he is the world’s video game designing God and father of all modern children. So, if you ask a real man, Miyamato was robbed.
So who in the hell beat Miyamato? Among the 18 “men” who beat out Miyamato were guys like Simpsons creator Matt Groening, that dude who plays Borat, Colt’s quarterback Peyton Manning, The Office star Steve Carell, some guy named Lewis Hamilton, Apple’s Steve Jobs, J Tim, and the PittClooney beast. Number 1 went to soccer star David Beckham whoever the hell that is.

What is Machinima? A production technique whereby a video game is used to produce a film. So what is special about BloodSpell? Aside from being very polished machinima, it is believed to be the largest machinima film ever produced. Another damn cool thing about BloodSpell is that it is being released under a Creative Commons license which means that it will be both free to download and to modify - the producers even encourage it! BloodSpell was created using the game Neverwinter Night and was written and directed my Hugh Hancock.

Virtual reality: the very words conjure ideas of complex artificial worlds of the future. What is the next step towards true VR? TN Games Shop thinks they have the answer. I, on the other hand, think they are f’n crazy.
